Weird Error - Press Return to Begin Session

I am getting a weird error on one of my ports. It says, Press Return
to Begin Login Session: If you hit return, it asks for password. If
you enter your user name instead of hitting enter, it then asks for
the password again, and if you enter your password it logs you in. I
have by-passed that port for now until I can get a solution for it.
Has some one seen this 'error' before? And what is the answer to it?
