Default gateway of 0.0.0.0

I have a Portmaster (Rel 3.1.4) attached to two Cisco 4000 routers.
Currently, one of these routers is defined as the default gateway for the
Portmaster. If this router fails, I suspect all traffic flow will cease.
What will happen if I set the default gateway to 0.0.0.0? Will the
Portmaster pick up it's default from one of the (broadcasting) routers?
