Linux, pppd-2.2 and Portmasters

I'm looking for some thoughts on what this is all about. I've been trying
to get pppd-2.2 for Linux (1.3.30 kernel) working using PAP for authentication.
I'm trying to connect to a Portmaster 2e/30 running ComOS 3.1.4. I want to get
this working without using the "+ua" switch to pppd which, according to the man
page, is obsolescent. It also bugs me that I can't get this working. :)

I've tried using the "-chap" switch. I've also tried to turn off packet
compression. I've also tried specifying an asyncmap. Does the Portmaster
support either CCP or BSD-Compress protocols?

The output from the debug output shows:

Oct 2 14:04:03 blackhole pppd[303]: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <mru 1500> <magic 0xac661ec> <accomp>]

Oct 2 14:04:09 blackhole pppd[303]: rcvd [LCP TermReq id=0x4]
Oct 2 14:04:09 blackhole pppd[303]: sent [LCP TermAck id=0x4]

On the syslog output for the Portmaster I see:

Oct 2 13:37:50 crumm.net.CSUChico.EDU dialnet: port S0 PPP succeeded dest Negotiated ipx 909090FF
Oct 2 13:37:53 crumm.net.CSUChico.EDU dialnet: port S0 ppp_sync failed dest

Now, I don't even have IPX enabled on the Portmaster. Somebody's just a
little confused here. ;)

Has anyone gotten this situation to work? Can you give me the correct
command line options and an example of what the pap-secrets file looks like?

Thank You.

Chris...
