Lucent ComOS (TM) 3.8.2c2 Modem IssuesThis technical bulletin provides information regarding modem software releases for the Lucent ComOS (TM) 3.8.2c2 for the Lucent PortMaster (TM) 3. ComOS 3.8.2c2 address most modem disconnection and connection problems. After upgrading to the new ComOS version, customers on Win95 and Win98 operating systems who are experiencing failures must limit the upper threshold speed of their modems with Rockwell HCF chipsets to a speed equal to or less than 41.3Kbps. Instruct customers to do one of the following to limit HCF aggressive speed retrains as
the modems attempt Enter Commas When Dialing In When the customer dials the connection number, place 5 commas immediately after the telephone number for example, 5551212,,,,,. The commas will limit the connection speed to eliminate the retrain problem. Change Customer PC Settings Instruct the customer to follow these steps:
Problems related to certain HCF modem models cannot be resolved without firmware upgrades to the client modems. Customers can use the following links to locate some manufactures current firmware releases. If a customer modem model is not included in this list it is recommended to contact the modem manufacturer for assistance.
