Redirect Console Output to a Printer on P0

Is your PortMaster(TM) 2 or PortMaster 2E's S0 port in service? If so, you can redirect console message output to a printer on P0 instead.

To track any error messages or debug output, you normally set DIP switch #1 (diag) up and connect a terminal to port S0. But leaving the #1 DIP in the up position causes two problems:

  • The port can be used only at 9600/8/1/n with XON/XOFF.
  • RADIUS requests are disabled on the port.

To have console output go to a printer on port P0 so you can use the S0 port for service:

  1. Attach a parallel printer the P0 port on the PortMaster.
  2. Telnet or connect a terminal to some port on the PortMaster.
  3. From the command line prompt type
  4.   Command> set p0 console

From then on, until another "set console" command is issued, any output from the PortMaster (generally, it produces very little) is printed in hard copy on your printer.
