Password Override

UPDATE: August 26, 1999

If you have lost or forgotten your password:

      1. Have a terminal connected to s0 with a null modem cable and dip switch 1 raised.
      2. Contact the Lucent InterNetworking Systems Technical Support Hotline at (800)458-9966,
          option 1. If you select option 9 from the menu, you will be given detailed instructions on how to obtain
          a password override via email in case your need comes after regular support hours. Or, you can send
          an email to override@ra.lucent.com with the challenge string in the body of the email.  Make sure to 
          disable any signature files on your email client before sending the email. Inserting the word "help" in the 
          body of the email will return an email with detailed instructions on this  procedure. 
      3. Login as !root and enter the Password 'override'. This will return a 16-character challenge.
      4. Pass this challenge to the Technical Support person. He/She will generate a response.
      5. Login as !root again, this time the password is the response given to you by the technical support 
          engineer. You should now be logged in.
      6. Use the 'set password' command followed by the password of your choice to change the !root 
          password.

Note: Both the challenge and response are case sensitive. When doing password overrides over the phone the phonetic alphabet makes for clearer communication.

IMPORTANT: Once you have received the Challenge string, do not attempt any further logins or reboot the unit until you have received the response string and entered it at the PortMaster (TM) console login prompt, or you will have to begin the process over again. This is especially important if you are submitting a Password Override via "support@" email.
