BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON!!!
Remove the 2 screws on the back of the PortMaster (TM) and remove the cover. Make sure
all the cards are properly seated. The 2 serial port cards have a tendency to POP OUT!!
Now is a good time to set the jumpers for AUI or BNC. for their settings.
- Get a terminal or a PC with terminal software. Set it to 9600-N-8-1.
- Get a null modem cable. Make sure it has pin 8 and not pin 6 jumpered to 20. Most null
modem cables have 6 to 20 jumpered. PortMasters assume a modem is going to be connected so
they look at pin 8 (CD).

- Connect it to port S0, (not P0, that's a parallel port) and turn on the unit.
- After 30 seconds you should see a "login:" prompt.
- Login as "!root". Yes that is a "!" in front of "root".
There should be no password on a "fresh" PM11.
- Type the following commands after you've logged in:
set telnet 23
set broadcast high
set address <the address you are going to assign it:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx>
set namesvc dns
set nameserver <your nameserver address:
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx>
set domain <your domain name>
set netmask <your netmask: default is 255.255.255.0>
save all
reboot
- Connect a 10 base 2 connector to the unit. if you need to switch to AUI, see the FAQ.
There are jumpers INSIDE you must change.
- The unit should be pinball and telnettable now.
- Get PMConsole (TM) and finish configuration.
Happy Motoring!
