Multitech 2834 Mp Rack Mounted

UPDATED: August 30, 1999

Here is a Multitech rack-mounted 2834 Mp modem init string that works!

AT&E1&E4&C1&R1$SB115200S0=1&W\r^OK

Hayes Optima Century Rack

The rack modems, unlike the normal OPTIMAs, bring up carrier when you issue a reset string like ATZ or AT&D3. The PortMaster (TM), unlike a PC or Mac serial port, picks up on this quick CD (Carrier Detect) and when it drops, resets the port again, making the whole thing happen all over again. The solution: don't reset the Hayes. Use a D2 for the DTR setting so the PM doesn't reset the Hayes on 1, just issues its commands again.

So for a normal OPTIMA use:

at&f&c1&d3&k3&q5m0s0=1&w\r^OK

And for the Century racks use:

at&f&c1&d2&k3&q5m0s0=1&w\r^OK

Mircocom HDMS+

A user reports that locking the PM ports at 115200 and using:

at&y1&f-j0-k0$b115200&c1&d2&y0&w

Results in a near 100% success rate for connections.

Zyxel 2864/2864I

Zyxel 2864/2864I(V.34 & ISDN) may not pass data from PM at -4.3V, customers have experienced having to pull their R16 resistor out so it wouldn't put garbage data going out. Also they gave these s-registers settings:

atE0s0=1s19=0s18=0s44.6=1
(this is to set the &B register to 1)

Some had the Resistor R16 removed from one Modem. It worked fine, but then the Modem had a heat problem, so they had to cool down the modem in order to keep it running. After that, they unpacked all 1 11 ZyXEL Modems to test them one by one.
Results:

7 worked without any modification with the PortMaster. 3 didn't work correctly in Auto Answering Mode. 1 Modem didn't work at all. So it wasn't a PortMaster Problem, was a ZyXEL manufacturing issue.

AT&T Paradyne 3811+

The init string for Paradyne 3811+ modems from AT&T's tech support provider: Lucent Technologies.

AT&FS0=1&W

add modem Paradyne "AT&T Paradyne 3811" 115200
"AT&FS0=1&W\r^OK"

Boca v.34 external modem

This init string applies to any v.34 Boca modem weather its a rack mount or stand alone and this comes from Boca technical support.

add modem boca "Boca v.34" 115200
"at&f&c1&d2&k3s0=1&w\r^OK"

NOTE:This was based on our customers experiences, not on internal testing. Also, if using a managed rack it may be best not to configure the modems from the PortMaster's modem table. In those instances, it is recommended that you configure the modems using the modem rack's own management tool.
