Installation Instructions PM11 PortMaster Memory Upgrade

Caution: Do not open the case without using the enclosed antistatic wrist strap.

  1. Facing the rear of the PortMaster, remove the screws located in the upper left and upper right corners of the PortMaster.
  2. Still facing the rear of the portMaster, slide the outside cover out 1/2-inch and lift the cover straight up.
  3. Lift the retaining bar off the communications boards.
  4. Remove the two communications boards.
  5. Still facing the rear of the PortMaster, locate the four screws which hold the floppy drive. These screws are located on the outside of the frame and are attached to the floppy drive bracket.
  6. Leaving the cables intact, remove the screws and place the drive to the side.
  7. Below the area where the floppy drive was installed, locate the four memory chips currently installed. They are labeled U3 through U6. Place one of the new memory chips in chip location U2 and the other in location U7. The chip locations are marked on the board near the lower left of each chip socket. Be very careful not to bend the pins as you insert the chip.

    Note: The notch in the chip should be oriented with the notch in the socket.
  8. Replace the floppy drive. Be sure the screws are snug but be careful not to strip them.
  9. Replace the communications boards, ensuring that they are well seated. Still facing the rear of the PortMaster, the right communications board goes into location J4. The left communications board goes into location J8.
  10. Replace the communications board retaining bar.
  11. Replace the cover of the PortMaster, leaving a 1/2-inch opening between the outside cover and the frame, then slide the cover into place. Replace the screws and tighten.
