Tech Bulletin - PortMaster True Digital(TM) Modems with ComOS 3.8 or
later
Create Date: 10/30/98
To all PortMaster owners with True Digital (TM) modems:
This technical bulletin is directed to all owners of PortMaster products
with True Digital modems who plan to upgrade or have already upgraded to
ComOS releases 3.8 or later.
ComOS 3.8 and later releases support V.90, the new 56Kbps ITU standard.
The implementation of this new protocol has brought challenges to both
client and server modem vendors. Each vendor has made significant effort
to meet the needs of interoperability throughout the industry. Each
release of a vendor's modem firmware has brought everyone closer to that
goal.
If you are an access provider preparing to upgrade a PortMaster to ComOS
3.8 or later, Lucent recommends instructing your customers to verify that
they have the latest firmware for their client modems. Your customers
must ask their modem vendor for a firmware upgrade. Customers with older
firmware, including some of the initial V.90 releases, might experience
less desirable performance until they upgrade the modem firmware. Modems
based on V.34 and older technology are still supported.
If a problem persists after you have confirmed that the client modem is
running the latest available firmware, contact the Lucent InterNetworking Systems
Technical Support Department to open a trouble ticket. If you are a US
customer, call 800-458-9966. If you are a Europe, Middle East and Africa
(EMEA) customer, call +33 4 92 92 48 48. All other customers from outside
the US, call +1-925-737-2100.
