I have the pleasure of dealing with both Ameritech and Alltel on ISDN
issues...

An Ameritech installer/tech told me that when they are short on facilities
at the CO they will look back through the records and find customers second
B channels that are rarely or never used. Then they will disconnect it and
use it for a new install until the customer calls asking why it does not
work...

I have Alltel ISDN at my home (pity accepted) I dial to my home from the
office so I don't incur per minute charges (its dedicated). Well I guess
they did not think I was using it so they decided to convert my data only B2
back to data and voice and add voice mail (preks) so my B2 started acting
flaky and would require a reboot of the OR-U to clear/reset the line. I
found out it had voice mail by placing a voice call to my B2 number, low and
behold I had free voice mail on my data line... My dedicated ISDN to my
house resets every 4-5 days, I have had dedicated ISDN customers stay up for
months though.

Moral of the story:
After you have double and triple checked your configs and settings, be
careful as your bending over to check the wiring, the TELCOs don't use
Vaseline.
