Re: (PM) Modem slow-down with 3.8.2c2

FWIW: I'm seeing what Jason is seeing, however I do have to agree
with what Mike Bacher is saying. It seems 3.8.2c2 is a lot more
stable than 3.8.2, and 3.8.2c2 does tend to deal with problematic
modems and poor residential lines better, but then so does a modem
pool connected to a PM2 :-)

IMHO: The slightly slower connect speed appears to be a trade off
in recognizing that not all modems and residential phone lines are
created equal. I'd have to give the Livingston people who worked
on the new modem code an "A" for effort. But, Livingston's effort
is beginning to look like the same ole song. . . Livingston just
can't please all the modems all the time, and neither can any
other vendor.

The dilemma as I see it is that many clueless users much prefer to
see their MickySoft connect speed of 50999 and they could care less
that their modem is retraining every 20 seconds as opposed to a more
stable 45666 connection with little or no retrains.

Out here in GTE & Pac Bell land using ICG provided CT1's, I've had the
best luck so far with running ComOS 3.8, and plan to be backing down
to it once again.

Just my two cents. . .
