(PM) PM2 Setup - I'm New To All This

Just like the doc's tell me to I have attached a 25 pin M-to-M modem
cable (the same one we use between our modems and our other PM2's)
with the 25-to-9 pin adapter to COM1 of my computer.

Dip switch 1 on the router is up, all others are down and I have my terminal
prog set to 9600-N-8-1 as per the manual.

When I start the terminal program & connect absolutely nothing
happens, the prog tells me that it is connected however nothing appears
on the screen.

I know some hardware requires that I send it a [space] or [cr] however
this does not work.

Any suggestions for a newbie as to what I'm missing?
