(PM) OSPF summaries, E2 vs. E1 type ASE OSPF routes

As it turns out, it is exceedingly difficult to summarise the
ASE type E2 routes the PM3 is generating for (mostly static) local
routes to dialin users.

Picture this:

Several PM3s connected to a large router, which is also connected
to the rest of the network.
On the PM3s we have users dialing in using *static* IP-numbers out of
the range 10.1.0.0/16. The PM3s and the router are talking OSPF to
make sure that the router knows which customer dialed in where.

I'd like the large router to advertise 10.1.0.0/16 as *one* summary
route to the rest of the network (also using OSPF).

The large router happens to be running gated 3.5.11. This means that
it might be patched to allow summarisation of E2 type routes after all
(but it's not going to be easy).
But OSPF, by default, doesn't like summarising E2 type routes.

So, the question is: how can I tell the PM3 to use E1 type routes or
(probably even better) internal-OSPF-routes instead of the default
E2 type routes it exports?
