(PM) 56k dropping out to poor performance v34

I'm having no luck with Lidcam the Australian distributor nor it would
seem with livingston themselves. It seems that flex 56k modems drop out
of 56k mode at some random period anywhere from 10 minutes to several
days. The modems end up at 26400 baud, which is pretty strange
considering it doesnt happen with the v90 code and that a v34 modem
connects at 33600 and stays at that speed.
This is happening at various sites around Australia with other ISPs and
its like banging your head against a brick wall trying to get anything
done about it.
What's even more curious is that the 56k modem connects at 50,000, and
if we take the longest stay in 56k of three days, the modem has done
only 10 renegoitations in that time which would indicate good line
quality (with data transfers 5.5k second). Then the next second its on
26400 baud. This happens with various brands of rockwell flex modems.
And if you hang up and ring straight back in again, its back to 50,000.

i hope somebody from lucent sees this and perhaps now they will take it
seriously.
