Once upon a time Scott Rothgaber shaped the electrons to say...
>Despite the fact that it was a separate fund, NO ONE wants to see
>money being spent while they're not gettin' paid! Get it? Like I

But it doesn't apply here. As has been stated many times, they are NOT
robbing Peter to pay Paul. They have budgeted, open reqs in most departments
currently unfilled, just waiting for a good candidate. So it isn't like
there is a choice "Hmm, pay the web team or pay the engineers." Besides,
unless something has changed, the "Web Team" is May and one other person
full time. And there are intranet issues that they'd have to deal with,
and the day to day issues of keeping a site running. There is also a person
in marketing who, as one of her roles, does markup on new marketing pieces.
And they had a graphics person on contract last I knew who handled the
graphics not just for the website, but for all of the marketing materials.

This isn't like Cisco, which has an an army of people working full time on
their site.

>but you draw a check every Friday, right? Some of us have SUBSTANTIAL

7th and 22nd actually, but yeah.

>and car payments. Now while I could not care less about when V.90
>comes out, I can certainly see why some of my bretheren get nervous
>when it comes to lost income, REGARDLESS of the amount. Yes,

Which is fine - and I do think a new ComOS is overdue if you want my
personal opinion. It has been a long time, and I think it might have been
a good thing to have a rev with things like ethernet multihoming, WAN
card support, OSPF on dial, etc but the existing K56flex modem code from
3.7.2c3. That code seems to work for most people, and it seems like V.90
is a real sore point in getting 3.8 out. But that's just how it looks from
the outside - I don't have exposure to what's happening inside much at all
anymore.

But when people get irrational about it, and start drawing connections
between a lengthy ComOS gestation and a new website, then I feel the need
to send a wake up call. That's an X-files plot, not a rational connection.

It doesn't do anyone any good to start jumping at shadows. Same with
blaming everything on the merger and all the doomsaying. Now, from talks
with people there, there has not been a mass exodus of people. The same
people who were designing, programming, building, shipping, and supporting
these products before the merger are doing it now. Lucent RABU is still
very much Livingston. Yes some people have left, and yes new people have
started - that's been happening constantly the entire time.
