(PM) Async Multilink PPP

Has anyone here tried Async multilink PPP with Win98? I've tried it and I
haven't been able to get good throughput. Win98 will connect the 2 modems for me
and it tells me that I'm connected at 74800 or whatever the speed may be. But
I'm no where near getting close to that in download speeds. I'm using a 28.8
modem and a 56K modem. Is there any tweaking I have to do in order to get my
download speeds to go faster? Has anyone else had better luck?
