(PM) Modem not answering

Hi,

Sorry if this is an inappropriate place to ask such a question (it seemed
right). I've looked through the mailing list archives and the tech web
pages but I can't find a solution to my problem.

I have a new PM25. I've configured it and attached a USR Sportster 33.6k
modem to it. The dip switch is set to autoanswer mode, and AA is lit. So is
TR and CS. When a call comes in, the modem picks up and hangs up really
fast (you can tell from the audible clicks). It does so so fast that phone
continues to ring, with the pickup hangup sequence occuring after each ring.

Turning off autoanswer just lets it ring as would be expected. I've tried
swapping modems, cables, ports and phone lines. This modem answers the
phone line as expected (without change in config) when attached to the
serial port of a PC. The modem is of course on and the phone wire is in the
right jack.

If anyone has encountered this before I'd appreciate information on how you
got around it. Any information that might help fix this would be
appreciated. Thanks!
