I have had to return 3 units out of 8. Not a very good record in my book.
The PM-2 is a much more reliable box. I have 12 of those and never had a
failure.

Unit 1 was sent back because there was something wrong with the line0 line
drivers. Unacceptable levels of renegotiations, retrains, and error
corrections on every trunk.

Unit 2 was sent back because the power supply developed some sort of
intermittant. It would run for a few hours if turned on after being off
for several hours. It would just lock up. You could tap the box on the
bottom with a knuckle and that would cause it to wake up and boot after a
lock. A powercycle would likewise wake it up.

Unit 3 had a power supply die completely.

I also now have a modem card that will cause a machine to crash after a
period of operation lasting from minutes to hours. It may have been this
card that killed box 3's power supply. I need to get this one exchanged.

For the most part it has been pretty painless to get Livingston to
exchange. The first box was the easiest although it was the most
difficult to convince myself that the problem was the PM-3 and not the
telco <grin>. The last two were more difficult. The support drones had
me reload the OS in the case of #2. #3 they acted like they didn't
believe me that you could flip the switch and it nothing would happen. No
fan, no LED's, nothing. Once you convince them that the unit has a
problem they ship you one and you put the stac card and the modems from
your box into the new box and ship the sick one back. They overnight them
so downtime is minimal.
