(PM) upgrading modem fireware on pm2e

We have a pile of usr modem attached to a pm2e. I would like to upgrade
them to the newest firmware. They have firmware new enough to do xmodem.
The only way I can think of doing it wo/ physical access is using something
like nettty on one of our linux boxes and use minicom. But nettty
will not compile. So does someone have a nettty or something like it that
will compile. Or is there some other way I can not think of
