Hrm. Always used at&d2.
Its a much harder connection drop, and drops IMMEDIATELY, if the user
drops carrier, rather than waiting about 10 seconds, then seeing the
carrier is dropped, then resetting it.
I haven't looked at a modem manual in so many years, that I couldn't tell
you what the differences are...
I *CAN* tell you, that with some brand modems, I've had trouble with AT&D3
on various modems, with a portmaster. (pm-11, pm2, pm2e, etc.) Those
modems that I had trouble with, AT&D2 worked just fine.

Disclaimer Note: I note that the conversation was about lockups on an
mp/16 with a Livingston Portmaster. My blurb will not fix the problem
with the MP/16-Livingston combo. AFAIK, the only way to reverse the
problem, is to powercycle the MP/16.
