(PM) PM3 won't do compression

[Cc:d to the PortMaster users list for a potentially faster response. :) ]

I'm seeing "Can't get compression history slot" from the PM3 on a new
ISDN connection trying to do Stac. The dial-in is an Ascend Pipeline
50 (6.0.0). Configuration is MPP (Ascend's term), Stac-9, VJ,
single-channel.

I suspect that rebooting would fix the symptom, since Stac has been
working flawlessly on this box until now, but I'd rather find the
*problem*. The mailing list archives didn't turn up anything.

I'm appending a PPP decoder ring trace from the 3.7.2c3 box.
