Did you forget to change the baudrate on your computer, since you
configure the portmaster? (9600 baud :))

Otherwise I would suggest that it is a bad modem, or that you go through
an analog PBX in your office.

How is you line configured? Can you dial any other locations with the
same
modem? Can some one else dial in? Are you showing errors on the line?
