(PM) Pipeline 50 <-> PM3 lockup

I think this has been beaten to death on the mailing list, but I
couldn't get any decent search results that offered any help.

We have a fistful of (dedicated) ISDN customers using Pipline 50s,
dialing into our PM3. Of them, all but one work flawlessly. They're
all configured as identically as I could make them: 56K DOSBS, Stac-9,
P50 version 5.1A.

One of them suddenly started "locking up" frequently. The symptom is
that from the PM3 end, I can't connect to the Pipeline or anything
behind it in any way that I've tried. If I reset the connection from
the PM3 end, the Pipeline doesn't dial back in. (It has worked a
couple times, but a couple out of dozens of lockups isn't much.)

Unfortunately, the most technical person at the Pipeline end struggles
with the simple procedure of unplugging the power cord and then
plugging it back in. Asking them to try to telnet to the Pipeline
from the inside is out of the question, although I could arrange to
get someone out there if necessary.

Yesterday I upgraded the firmware to 6.0.2--one of Ascend's more
recent flavors of the week. (6.0.4 is available, but I couldn't find
a build for this Pipeline version.) That worked well overnight, but
the box "locked up" first thing this morning.

If it means anything to anyone, this particular Pipeline (S/N 636xxxx)
is one of the old ones with the slide switch. I'm pretty sure this is
the oldest Pipeline we have in the field.

I've tried various combinations of with/without Stac, with/without VJ,
but they all seemed to behave about the same.

Has anyone found a "good version" of the Ascend firmware that supports
Stac? Should I open a ticket with Lucington? With Ascend? (Should I
even bother starting the finger-pointing?)

(I have a second PM3 at the end of the PRI hunt group that's running
3.8b15, but I haven't tried switching the Pipeline to call that, since
the directory number pointing at that PM3 is only temporary. Would
that be worthwhile?)
