(PM) "lost-carrier"

I have several users who are out in the boonies, telco-wise. One is at the
very end of the circuit and the local SWBT tech says he barely has enough
signal on his pairgain to give the customer a dial tone, let alone enough
throughput for cruising the net. Well, this customer has stuck with us for
almost a year now, even though he can never connect higher than 14.4 and
often at only 12.6 or less.

Lately he called to tell me that he has been unable to maintain a
connection for more than a minute or so before the line disconnects. Sure
enough in the radius logs there is entry after entry of logins with
disconnects after about 30 seconds to a minute and a half. Nothing over 2
minutes. They all show the termination reason "lost-carrier".

I'm going to have him see how many phones are on that line and disconnect
them & set his mtu lower (about 1000?). Can any think of anything else I
could have him do to maintain a connection? I'd like to keep him happy as
he can be with his crappy phone lines...

BTW, portmaster is PM2e running COMOS 3.5.

Thanks,
Todd Jagger
