(PM) Win95 Software Compression

In Win95 DUN, does software compression cause problems? A while ago, we
encountered a problem with disconnects and other instability (particularly
with "unable to establish a compatible set of protocols") and having the
users uncheck software compression seemed to fix the problem. It's been a
while since I've looked at the issue, but some of our tech support people
swear by it. Is it really necessary to disable this feature, or are we
engaging in some sort of superstition :-)
