For the last 2-3 yrs I am been helping maintain the internet equipement
and the dial in internet
We have a portmaster 2e 10 port 9 phone lines and 9 infotel 14.4 modems
(rockwell 14.4 chipset)
The portmaster was fed by a 56k line we were using but as of sept last
year the campus finally got a campus wide frac t1
It was january of this year that I decided to add a 28.8 modem to the dial
in system, a boca 28.8. Using the add modem profile and the settings
recommended by livingston under "a couple of init strings" I was able to
get the modem working but when I dialed into it with my 28.8 modem I had
the connect was flakey as hell.
Unfortunitely before I later discovered that my 28.8 modem was at fault, I
had ask some other ppl about my problem and they suggested dumping the
portmaster flash and then reloading comos and redoing all the settings.
I did this and now it all works except 1 thing..... The last person
had the portmaster setup so that the ports on the portmaster that had the
infotel 14.4 modems connected to were set at 57600 and worked great.
Now I can't set the ports above 9600 or I get garbage on connect
I have tried all kinda of modem init strings, portmaster setttings. flow
control, etc nothing works and the person who set the portmaster up last
time is long gone. I know it must have been a setting in the portmaster
cause before I redid the config I could hook up about any old 14.4 and it
worked righy away.
I even tried a hayes optima 14.4 and it won't work either at any speed
I am desperate for answers and right now the campus has no money to buy
good modems so if anyone can suggest a modem profile or init strong that
may work please let me know
btw I I setup a usr 28.8 last week using a add modem profile for a usr and
that works great also
My newcom 33.6 is able to connect to both the boca 28.8 and usr 28.8 and
hit 24000 almost even connect :)
