"Session" implies a circuit connection (virtual or otherwise ala TCP).

SNMP uses UDP as it's transport, so there isn't a snmp "session" as
such.

It appears the pm3 only supports snmp V.1 ... make sure thats what your
snmp console is doing ....

Make sure that UDP ports 161/162 are open between your console and
agents ......

On the pm, you need to turn on the snmp agent (it's off by default) -
see "set snmp on". Second, you need to make sure your snmp agent(s) and
console are using the same community names, (see set snmp read/write
community). Third, you need to tell the snmp agent (in the pm) what
consoles you'll except snmp messages from, see "add snmp host".

The community string is part of snmp V.1 spec. and the only "secuity"
in the protocol. Setting which host to accept isn't part of the spec
but many vendors add this "extension".

Failing to set up the agent/console community name properly will make
snmp get/set fail by design. The "behavior" of the failure is no response
from the agent ..... one would assume a get from an invalid host would
show the same "response".

BTW: Make sure the objects you're trying to "get" acually exist (and
work :-) and your get/getNext is pointing to the right OID, see the
pm3 mibs .....

Good background info is Marshall Rose's Simple Book.
