I have a client who HAD a serious retrain problem with a Zoom. When
he flashed the Zoom code date 1/23/98, which I think is the 1.2
release, things got better, not worse!

He still gets quite a few retrains and renegotiations though -
currently 7 in his 16-hour session - and his modem still drops down to
V.34 with heavy use, but before he flashed to the new code his
connection spiraled into an infinite retrain loop and was unusable.

He's a dedicated-line client, so his experience involves multi-day
sessions. Prior to the 1/23/98 code his connection was frequently
unusable; with the new code things still aren't great, but his
connection at least is usable and has remained at 44000/31200 for a
couple of days at a time. It won't remain there under heavy use is
all.
