Once upon a time Irve Towers shaped the electrons to say...
>I've had 3 different 56k modems here at my home, Acer internal, Zoom
>External, and Motorola External. All have at least V1.12 release of the
>Rockwell firmware. All connected everytime at 46k plus however after some
>period of connect time (mostly idle time) all of them re-negotiate the
>speed down to 24k. I just wrote it off initially as a modem/firmware issue

Maybe your line can support/sustain a PCM link. Have you tried using
the modems from another location? Are other users getting PCM to
stay up successfully?
