Well... I don't want to be mis-quoted as saying the PM "slows down."
Livingston has stated that it can transfer data at the full rate on all
ports and I believe that. What has been said here before is that the
"LOGIN" sequence seems to slow down. **IF** that is truly the case, then
there is NOTHING you can do about it.
> P.S. I'm also asking because these problems seem to come in spurts for me.
I think that is the case for all of us. Mine have gone to nearly nothing
with our PM3s tho'.
Has anyone ever measured the speed of the "Login:" prompt for connections
during different loading of the PM?
This would be a little problematic because the Login: is only issued when
the PM2 sees the DCD go positive, right? So, in essence, it is VERY
dependent on how fast the modems train and give DCD.... and therefore it
could be caused by any wide ranging effect that would cause the modems to
train slower - others mentioned bad weather causing poor telephone
performance (slow modem training).
So... bad weather could cause the modems to train slower, the PM2 would
issue the Login: slower, and by now, the Win95 DUN has done it's timeout
deal. Keep the focus on the fact that it is most likely a DUN bug, not
something that Livingston or anyone besides MS can fix correctly.
Note, please, that I am on the digest, so if anyone doesn't CC: me today I
won't see your comments until after midnight! :)
Later.
