Very true that the session timeout is the way to go to limit these
bandits... we set ours to 25200/sec or 7hrs.. However some clients are
set up with a 4 or 5 hour time out, as we have singled out the problem
ones.. But wait, there's more...
A filter that can detect when someone is simply pinging the connection at
regular intervals would be the answer... The trouble is, while the
session timeout is great, it is still not the solution. Some of our
clients not only know how to ping the connection, others have programs
that allow their puters to automatically reconnect after the session
timeout. So here is the scenario, user logs in, pings connection every
2min to keep from being timed out, then after 7hrs, session timeout pops
them out, and the puter re-dials and connects to start the malicious
cycle over again. So, what people are getting is a Dedicated connection
that gets reset every 7hrs... (I wish my dedicated connection was only
$16.95/month)
The ComOS needs to have something written into it that detects pings that
come in regular intervals and pops people out the moment it detects it.
Then we can tell people when they sign up that pinging the connection is
illegal and if they do it they will be popped out.
Simply notifying people of their abuse does not work... How can I tell
someone not to do something when I have left the whole there for them to
do it?
Just a thought.... Thanx
