(PM) pm3 digital modem compatibility

If there is one thing I hate more than anything its when someone in the
tech support dept. calls me up and says "X customer can't get a good
connection to us! X's setup is just fine, phone company checked out X's
lines, X still can't get a good connection...". I love livingston stuff,
the PM2ERs I use are great solid stuff, and so many customers are squealing
for 56k (& ISDN...) that I have convinced the boss to dump the old hardware
and get 2 glistening new PM3s. However, a recent post to this list about a
customer's diffaculty connecting to the digital modems in a PM3 with a us
robotics modem (which certainly many of my customers use!) is scaring the
**** out of me! Can anyone put me at ease about this? Just how good are
those modems? Also, it will be a software upgrade to the new standard,
right?

Thanks
