Okay, what's the scoop here? I have heard a number of things from
customers using various types of modems to dialin to our PM3 hunt and I
have been hearing mixed complaits about disconnects, etc. First off,
their was a press release from Livingston a few monthes back re:
disconnections with 28.8 / 33.6 Sportster modems. The fix was to turn off
V.42BIS compression. Is that STILL the only solution or are the people at
Livingston (Lucent) working to come up with a fix that will cure this
problem once and for all? Also, another problem, as you will see in the
below correspondance with one of my tech support reps is with other 28.8
and/or 33.6 customer modems (GVC in this scenerio) connecting at only
14.4, no higher. Also, as you can see in the below correspondance, it
seems like our old scripted hunt (a series of BSD/OS Terminal servers with
2 x 16Port digiboards and 30 33.6 sportster modems works better then the
PortMaster3 design at $249.00 per port. I hope this is NOT the case as we
have 20 of these, and have ordered 30 more to be shipped by the end of
next week!!! Uhmm, am I the only ISP with the only customers who are
experiencing these problems or has anyone ever in the past verified what I
have just said and have you got a working solution for these problems?!

TiA.

I got a little question about the 5805 number - I cannot get it to connect
at anything over 14.4 - I got a 28.8 GVC modem. I tried all the updated
drivers, init strings - nothing helps - I did a test and after 30 redials
just gave up cause it would always connect at 14.4. I've also spoken with
a customer who had exact same problem and exact same modem. The trick for
me is to use scripted lines - no problems connecting at 28.8 whatsoever, X2
numbers work fine too. It's only 5805 and Flex lines that connect at 14.4
for me.... any ideas?
