There are several commercial products availble to do that.
I made a wooden rack to hold 2 portmasters, 2 UPSs, and 48 modems.

the shelves are pieces of 1x4" pine with little pieces of 1" wood glued to
the shelf to keep the modems seperated. It took about a day to build.
Right now, it only has 24 modems and 1 portmaster on it, and various other
sporting equipment covering unused flat surfaces.
In a month, the lines will be replaced with digital lines in another town,
and rackmounted equipment. I'll sell the modems off to customers, and pile
more sporting equipment all over the hulking wooden structure. It might
make a nice little closet. And the UPS I'll put on my alpha or something.
