The modems and modem cards are numbered sequentially, and the numbers
don't change. The top slots are 1-2-3 (left to right), and the bottom
slots are 4-5-6. Slot 1 handles M0 to M9, slot 2 has M10 to M19, etc.,
so M30 would be the first modem in slot 4 (lower left slot).

This is the case for both 8- and 10-modem cards.
