(PM) USR x2 = KFLEX ?? (fwd)

Once upon a time Bernie Borgmann shaped the electrons to say...
>This is very interesting from what I can read into this it means USR
>will support the ITU standard which is K56FLEX
>http://www.3com.com/x2delivers/x2delivers.html
>Am I correct in this assumption

K56flex is *NOT* the ITU-T standard - there is no ITU-T standard yet.

History.

USR had X2. Rockwell had K56Plus. Lucent had V.flex2.

Rockwell and Lucent agreed to work together, USR said no. The Rockwell-
Lucent camp developed K56flex.

So now we have X2 and K56flex.

All of these vendors, and others I'm sure, are talking with the ITU-T
over the development of a new standard for 56K modems - tenatively called
V.PCM. It is highly unlikely that *either* K56flex or X2 will be the
standard. It is highly probable, and supported by history, that the
standard will be a blending of all proposals.
