(PM) USR modem <-> PM3 problems still?

I have reason to believe that there are still problems between the PM3 and
USR modems. From testing with 28.8k (as per ati3) and 33.6k (as per ati3)
USR Sportsters I have noticed that both start slowing down, freezing, and
disconnecting within 5-10 minutes in V.42/LAPM mode. They are connecting
to a PM3 running ComOS 3.7.2 with two trunk-side CT1's (ESF/B8ZS) with E&M
Immediate start signalling.

When I change to MNP/MNP5 mode on each Sportster they both work perfectly
fine beyond that time and have no freezing problems.

Force MNP/MNP5 mode init commands:

Sportster 28.8k ATS27=32
Sportster 33.6k ATS15=128

The Courier init string to force MNP mode is the same as the 28.8k
Sportster but doesn't seem to even have this problem.

Anyone else noticing similar things? I'm still playing around with modems
trying to isolate what it could be. Remember, USR init strings have
changed a lot over the years so the ones I posted are valid only for my
particular models - but hopefully valid for all :)

Thanks.
