Felipe,

Thank you for the fast reply. The IRX supports an RS232 mode on its wan
ports (dip-switchable between v.35 and rs232). I would suspect that this
is synchronous only because it needs to take an external clock signal on
wan ports (according to what I was just reading on the web site). Your
mention of the only asynch port being on the console port (s0), seems to
drive the point home: synchronous only.

Also, the more I think about it, won't I lose 2 bits on async (start +
stop) as opposed to sync?

Where does the clock signal propogated from? They mention a "carrier" in
the docs, does this referr a clock signal that begins at the telco, or is
it only transmitted from DSU to DTE?

I thought so :-) I take it the OR-LS is a smaller version of the IRX 114?

It sounds kludgy no matter how you do it. Black box makes some products.
They're so expensive that they practically warrant a small router.

So would I. I don't trust PC's, but I think the customer is leaning on the
end of cost. Couple that with my lack of knowledge on novell, makes for
wild ride of a research project. What I'd like to see is one of those
internal ISA DSU cards with a red "Yes, it runs on Novell" sticker on it
:-)

Thank you for your input! :-)
