The modems that came with Packard Bell machines were really crappy. This
is not a great excuse, but here is what we do when we have customers that
have 14400 or even 28800 modems and they cant get connected, and we
determine its a Piece of $hit modem. We give them a modem. We have dozens
and dozens of old internal 14400 and 28800 modems that we get in trades,
whatever. We give em modems we know work. Its worth the hassle, at least
for us.
