I would avoid Hayes even if they made decent code. I ordered one of
their "trade in any modem for a Hayes 56k modem" upgrades. I registered
on the web page in June, got a call to confirm the order in
mid-September when I was told it would ship out the next morning, and I
still don't have a modem. Every time I call and ask it is a different
story. Last week it was "we got a shipment in, but they all had
defective chips", this week it is "there are 682 modems on backorder."
They have never had any estimate on when they will get more modems.
When I asked the woman yesterday if I was going to get one by the end of
the year, she said "you haven't been waiting as long as some people -
some have been waiting since April." I guess I should feel lucky!
