That's funny, I told Packeteer the same thing, the Packetshaper costs
way too much. They returned with a comment that they were looking at a
lower end unit, but that thing is already only a dual 10BastT unit with
pretty basic functionality. Considering that you can take an old system
that's going out of service, like a P75 or some such thing, load Linux
and some bandwidth limiting software on it and have the same thing as a
Packetshaper that can also do other services (like routing, seconday DNS
or something), why would you spend the 7K for the Packetshaper? for $2000
you can do the same thing with a faster machine and stick a T-1 card
right in it.
