Not sure what version of the telepathic modems your talking about but we
have a few clients with that exact problem. Had them use this init string
and they are happy as clams.

AT&F1S33=32S15=128S27=64

Used it on at least 5 different cows with the telepathic modems with great
success. They're USR Chipsets at least the ones we've been dealing with.
