Anyway, what is the "correct" routing setup for PM-2e's in a RIP
routing environment? Does ComOS 3.5 do a "redistribute static" for
these boxes, such that it would be wrong to give them a default
gateway route? That is, it necessary (or highly desireable) to
let them learn the gateway route from RIP in this case? If so,
how do I back down from my current situation of having both a
static route and ether0 set to ROUTE ON (we ignore RIP from
the serial ports and don't send it there, either)? Do I have
to do a "delete route default" "save global" and "reboot"?
It seems that if I do a "delete route default" and "save global"
the PM-2e's then do not learn the real default route -- at least
not in a time frame that I was willing to wait...
Here's the background -- it appears that some devices, in accordance
with certain interpretations of RIP, when given a default route,
announce to their attached network(s) that THEY are the default
router for that (those) network(s). This is causing us REAL PAIN.
I am going through all of our dozens of network devices and trying
to find the cannonically correct solution (until we switch to OSPF
for internal routing...)
