A few good things about the 56k cards!

This is just a quick note to let people know that the Lucent cards ARE
working and pretty well when paired with the correct client modems. Zoom
and Zoltrix modems seem to max out at about 42-44k. The Hayes code allows
connects consistently at 50k. When using STAC without modem compression or
error control, our users see speeds equivalent to single channel ISDN. I
visited my father today and after installing the Win95 DUN 1.2 & winsock
updates, using his USR 33.6k internal, I was able to get 4-6KB/s download
speeds on many binary files. I haven't actually tested the speed with
standardized text and binary files, but since the Lucent upgrade, he
connects more consistently at 33.6k and with the STAC card, downloads are
faster than ever before. I think with a little more tweaking, these cards
will blow away everything else out there! For those of you waiting for the
cards, keep waiting secure in the knowledge that when your cards arrive,
they'll work with ALL of your clients modems. Right now our ISP management
program (Emerald) has about 25 trouble tickets open regarding dropped calls
and customers that are unable to connect, but I have gotten _at_least_ that
many positive email messages since the upgrade too. :)
