The ComOS's available for FTP look like uuencoded. Probably it would
suffice to uudecode the files ...

Could check:

Boot GENERIC.PMx
pm> tftp put comos <host> generic.uue
Edit generic.uue to conform to uuencoded files (the ``begin'' and
``end'' line have to be completed)
$ uudecode <generic.uue >generic.image
$ diff generic.image GENERIC.PMx
