Not all Zoom 56k modems shipped with V1.0. Karl Denninger from MCS has
thankfully supplied an Updater for Zoom modems that arent V1.0.

However, I did go over to CompUSA yesterday and pick up a Zoom 56K
Internal modem off the shelf, brought it home, and it connected at 50K
right out of the box. This has been the *ONLY* modem that we seen connect
at speeds higher than 33.6.....I personally am fed up with Hayes and
wouldn't recommend their modems at all right now.

Looks like Zoom it is...and by the way, Zoom has a nice rebate going right
now. Total price after rebate for Zoom 56k: $99.
