RE: Lucent K56Flex Upgrades broke a few modems

"User Request" doesn't always indicate that the user actually pressed the
"disconnect" button. All "User Request" indicates is the remote modem
asked for call termination.

Remember... in a perfect world, we wouldn't be seeing these compatibility
problems because everyone would be using the "V" standards to a "T" (bad
pun, I know). Unfortunately, because this is the real world, vendors tend
to use a number of different "V-isms."

Livingston is now using Lucent's interpretation of the "V" standards, and
we're stuck with that for now. I'm sure Livingston will push Lucent to
develop their modem code as needed to support every modem out there.

I'm personally much happier with these new modems than I was with the
old... ping times are down, connect rates are up, and customers are
generally getting a more solid connection. Unfortunately, the small
percentage of people with older, cheaper, or plain broken modems are having
problems now.

Remember back to when the PM3 was first introduced? Modem problems galore
as Livingston refined their modem code to talk to everyone. Now we're
dealing with Lucent, who hasn't really played the modem game in the past,
and they will refine their code, I'm sure.

Subject: Lucent K56Flex Upgrades broke a few modems

We are using 2 PRI lines connected to a DMS-100. PM3 w/ Lucent cards, ComOS
3.7, and a STAC Card.

1. Random disconnects with customers that NEVER had problems before! MANY
different brands of 28.8k-56k modems including: Zoom 33.6k, USR Sportsters,
TI 33.6k. I am receiving several different disconnect clauses from the PM3.
They are:

"User Request" (Which they clearly didn't)
"Lost Carrier"
"8" (What is this?)

2. 14.4k compatibility issues:

A customer has a generic 14.4k modem with the following output:

ati2
7A3462

ati3
AT-1414PC/1R 29/08/1994 V4.23

ati4
V.32bis/FAX MODEM, Ver 4.23

ati5
ALL PASS

Is this a known problem? He can only connect at 1200 baud. I have verified
this from the ComOS command prompt. Please let me know if there is a fix
for this and how I can obtain it. He has given us a week to "fix" the
problem.
