Client has an HP Pavilion 7420 series 56KFlex modem
ATi3 shows
v3.12 or v3.28 (has two of 'em)
rest of the string reads "LTK56Flex by Lucent Tech."
HP part number is 5965-4196
Client called HP tech support and they told him "This modem will absolutely
connect at 56k outta da box. Your connection problems are directly related
to your ISP's connection. Tell your ISP they need to upgrade their modems"
Client is pretty savy and after laughing at the tech support "guru" and
calling us back he's comfortable waiting for an upgrade or swapping out his
modems.
Now we all know how lame that is, that's one of the reasons we are taking
this information down and posting it on our wen site (in the near future).
We along with everyone else here I assume need to be able to supply current
information about the modems. If not have the upgrades when they become
available.
1. Any chance we can get from Lucent or from LE any modems and model
numbers w/version info. That have been tested against these new modems
(56K clients). I saw the list for standard modems in the release docs.
Considering that modem code exists like above (higher than 1.0) I can see
confusion coming on real fast. This is going to get real hairy in the near
future as I'm sure some of you already know. Any info. would be greatly
appreciated. Everything that has been said here to date has been pretty
good though.
2. IMO LE is in the catbird seat here and as I'm sure they already are,
pressure certainly needs to be put on the modem mans to get these updates
out ASAP. ZOOM and Hayes have already started w/ betas so that's a good
start.
I guess note one is more important. Due to the overwhelming client
request. We had most of our clients pretty well prepared for this and the
screaming hasn't started yet, but it will soon.
All in all we're happy as heck w/ the new modems, it was worth the
wait.....
