Hi to all,

I remember a while ago that someone pointed out this particular problem but
I don't remember what solution (if any) where given. I'm running b20 CT1 FXS.

Take the following "sh mod" reading:

M0 S16 ACTIVE 26400 V42BIS LAPM 411 0 LOST CARRIER
M1 S11 ACTIVE 14400 NONE DIRECT 369 0 LOST CARRIER
M2 S31 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 408 0 NORMAL
M3 S10 ACTIVE 31200 V42BIS LAPM 397 0 NORMAL
M4 S9 ACTIVE 14400 NONE LAPM 382 0 NORMAL
M5 S19 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 368 0 LOST CARRIER
M6 S4 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 363 0 NORMAL
M7 S30 ACTIVE 24000 V42BIS LAPM 363 0 NORMAL
M10 S20 ACTIVE 31200 V42BIS LAPM 374 0 LOST CARRIER
M11*S28 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 357 0 LOST CARRIER
M12 S14 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 322 0 NORMAL
M13 S12 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 313 0 LOST CARRIER
M14 S6 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 318 0 LOST CARRIER
M15 S29 ACTIVE 31200 V42BIS LAPM 305 0 NORMAL
M16 S3 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 378 0 NORMAL
M17 S22 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 281 0 NORMAL
M20 S1 ACTIVE 14400 V42BIS LAPM 263 0 LOST CARRIER
M21 S21 ACTIVE 14400 V42BIS LAPM 260 0 NORMAL
M22*S28 ACTIVE 31200 V42BIS LAPM 208 1 NORMAL
M23 S26 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 274 1 NORMAL
M24 S23 ACTIVE 26400 V42BIS LAPM 276 0 NORMAL
M25+S24 ACTIVE 31200 V42BIS LAPM 173 0 NORMAL
M26 S8 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 259 0 NORMAL
M27 S7 ACTIVE 14400 V42BIS LAPM 221 0 LOST CARRIER
M30 S18 ACTIVE 14400 V42BIS LAPM 212 0 NORMAL
M31 S27 ACTIVE 14400 V42BIS LAPM 208 0 LOST CARRIER
M32 S5 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 186 0 LOST CARRIER
M33 S0 ACTIVE 24000 V42BIS LAPM 162 0 LOST CARRIER
M34+S24 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 154 0 LOST CARRIER
M35 S15 ACTIVE 28800 V42BIS LAPM 157 0 NORMAL
M36 S25 ACTIVE 14400 V42BIS LAPM 142 0 LOST CARRIER
M37 S17 ACTIVE 14400 V42BIS LAPM 123 0 NORMAL

You will notice that M11 and M22 both have s28 attached and that M25 and
M34 both have s24 attached. This is really WRONG. A later reset of s28
and s24 freed M11 and M34 but M22 and M25 stayed attached to s28 and s24
respectively. Even a reset of M22 and M25 didn't solved the problem (the
reset of a particular modem with res Mxx doesn't seem to work at all with
ANY modem). I was lucky that they were both on the same modem card so I
pulled out the card and put it back in since it's hot swapable. It did
reset the modems but it's not a very desirable way to do it. That
particular condition resulted in having fewer modems than channels
available and the PM3 would answer a call but not connect to a modem
resulting in a very long silence for the caller.

The exact same situation happends sometime when a user hangs up and the
modem stays in a CONNECT state (not ACTIVE and not READY) with a speed of
UNKNWN. This was supposed to be fixed in b20 but even though it APPEARS to
be less frequent, it is NOT fixed. Here's a typical "sh mod" reading you
should see when this happends:

M13 S16 CONNECT UNKNWN NONE NONE 318 0 LOST CARRIER

Again, this situation results in having fewer modem available than the
number of channel available on the T1 thus resulting in a long silence when
the PM3 answers the call. Since the CT1 line doesn't "ring", I cannot say
for sure that the PM3 does answer the call but in any case the long silence
is very annoying to many users trying to connect.

In a very busy night, you could see 2 modems stuck on phantom ports as
described in the first scenario and 1-2 modems stuck on "CONNECT" state as
described in the second scenario. This means that 4 channels on the CT1
are NON AVAILABLE and that 4 simultaneous users need to listen to the long
silence before the fifth can connect to the next port in the hunt group.
This is NOT good at all. I've studied this behavior for a long time before
posting this.

Hoppefully, someone will come out with a good answer.

Thanks in advance.

JF.
